Charlie Kirk — the founder of influential conservative group Turning Point USA who drew controversy for anti-transgender rhetoric and promoting conspiracy theories about race, the 2020 U.S. election and COVID-19 — was shot and killed at an event he was hosting at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

A sniper fired a single shot from a rooftop approximately 142 yards away, striking Kirk in the neck near his carotid artery. Witnesses reported seeing him collapse amid the chaos that ensued

Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are actively investigating the incident. A bolt-action rifle believed to be the murder weapon has been recovered, and forensic evidence, such as a palm print and shoe impression, is being analyzed. The suspect, described as wearing tactical black gear, a helmet, and a mask, remains at large. Two individuals were initially detained but later released after law enforcement determined they had no connection to the incident
