Core Curriculum:
Science 8 at Palmer Secondary shows you the four big parts of science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science. The class is about the things that help you understand how the natural world is connected, starting from the tiny cells in your body to the massive tectonic plates under your feet.

Biology: You’ll learn Cell Theory, learning how all living things are made of cells. It includes the differences between plants and animal cells, and how our immune system protect us.

Chemistry: This unit explains the recipe for everything around us. You’ll study the Kinetic Molecular Theory which is how particles move and also Atomic Theory, including the basics of protons, neutrons, and electrons.

Physics: You’ll learn how energy moves as light and sound. To be specific it will include the electromagnetic spectrum and how we use mirrors to bend light.

Earth Science: This part focuses on the layers of the Earth and how the Theory of Plate Tectonics works. You’ll learn how the these plates movement causes earthquakes and volcanoes. Even here in BC.
