​

Humanities 8 at Palmer Secondary is an integrated course that connects English and Social Studies together to have more academic growth. Students explore how language are tools for their self-understanding and also global connection, while also reinforcing and expanding the geographic skills acquired in previous years.

  Key Topics 

 

• World History (7th Century to 1750): During this topic students will analyze important cultural, social and political changes during this time period. Major units usually have

  • The Middle Ages and the development of feudal societal structures.

  • The Renaissance and the emergence of new worldviews and artistic expressions.

  • The positives and the negatives of major world religions.

• Geography: Students reinforce and expand upon the geographical knowledge and skills acquired in Grade 7, usually focusing on how the environment influenced historical civilizations.

• English Language Arts: Literature is used to explore a lot of themes through a big variety of texts, including:

  • Novels, short stories, and poems.

  • Non-fiction and historical texts that complement the social studies content.

  • Writing and composition, with an emphasis on reading comprehension and developing very nice communication skills.​​​
